When is World Spine Day?
World Spine Day takes place on October 16th every year!
What is World Spine Day?
World Spine Day is an annual celebration which raises awareness and commemorates individuals who suffer from the burdens of spinal pains and disabilities worldwide. World Spine Day is a day for individuals around the world – from health professionals, exercise and rehabilitation experts and public health advocates, to school children and patients – to come together and highlight the importance of spinal health and wellbeing.
The yearly commemoration promotes physical activity, healthy work conditions, responsible lifting and good posture. It aims to educate and encourage individuals around the world to better look after their spine.
World Spine Day is organised by the World Federation of Chiropractic, with over 600 official organisational supporters worldwide. World Spine Day was first launched in 2012, in hopes to raise awareness for back and spinal pain and their treatment options.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons behind doctor visits worldwide and afflicts millions of people on a daily basis, resulting in consequences for the broader community, such as impacting the economy and rippling effects on work-life balance.
2020’s World Spine Day
To keep things exciting, World Spine Day sports a different theme each year. This year, World Spine Day will be celebrated with a ‘Back on Track” theme!
While acknowledging 2020’s challenges of a worldwide pandemic alongside lockdown and exercise restrictions, this year’s World Spine Day aims to encourage people to get back on track, revitalise their spines, continue exercising and restore their physical and mental well-being.
Governments, communities, organisations and health professionals from all over the world will be involved in this year’s World Spine Day events and initiatives (both online and offline in accordance with regional social distancing guidelines). As part of the ‘Back on Track’ campaign, organisers will be teaching participants ways to keep healthy and treat their spinal pains using practical indoor methods.
In Australia, World Spine Day is led by the Australian Chiropractors Association (which has been an official member of the World Federation of Chiropractic since its creation). The ACA contributes to World Spine Day by actively researching, advocating for and encouraging public engagement for the event, as well as supports all participating chiropractors in educating the public and enhancing spinal care treatments.
Along with My Back Relief Clinic, the ACA has over 3000 members, all of which will be contributing to this year’s World Spine Day.
